Delhi-based collector Prem Kandwal is fast emerging as one of the most influential voices in India’s art investment landscape. Known for his deep focus on Raja Ravi Varma and M. V. Dhurandhar, Kandwal has built one of the country’s most significant private collections—spanning rare oleographs, paintings, books, postcards, and, notably, original copper plates linked to the Ravi Varma Press.
With over two decades of corporate leadership experience across global brands such as Ranbaxy, Nestlé, Li & Fung, Tommy Hilfiger, Zara, and Levi’s, Kandwal brings a sharp investment lens to the art world—an approach increasingly shaping how Indian art is collected, valued, and discussed today.
His exhibition, “Prints of Divine,” is not just a showcase—it is being seen as a pivotal moment in bringing historically significant yet under-recognized works, including original printing plates, into the public and academic spotlight.
Kandwal is also the co-founder of amarpremlithos.com , an initiative aimed at documenting and reviving India’s rich print heritage—home to one of the largest known collections of art ephemera in Southeast Asia.
Mr. Reddy is a young Hobby Art Collector (Lithographs), based in Thane. He started his collection hobby in 2022. He completed his B Com from Sydenham College, Mumbai and proceeded to complete his Law from the Govt. Law College, Mumbai.
Mr. Reddy is also a very avid traveler who likes to visit Indian Heritage Sites and till date has visited more than 1200 (known & unknown) sites and has more than 1.5 lakhs pictures of the places which he shares with research scholars and contributes his pictures for their papers.
Prior to starting his journey into Art he contributed in executing projects for the Govt. of Maharashtra which gave him opportunity to interact with people from different sections of the society.
Mr. Reddy said that having seen the original Oil on Canvas painting of the Master Artist Raja Ravi Varma at the Laxmi Vilas Palace at Vadodara planted the seed of looking at art in a different perspective altogether.
In the summer of 2022 he was fortunate enough to get hold of more than 35 Oleographs at one place, which triggered his passion to collect more. Till date he has more than 400 prints ranging from postcards to 24 x 36 inches size prints.
Maintaining such a huge collection has many challenges due to the climate of Mumbai and high restoration costs, so he maintains a fine balance between his hobby and other constraints. He dedicates his entire collection to the memory of his parents who encouraged him.
Mr. Reddy along with his friend from Delhi Mr. Prem Kandwal are in the process of starting a website amarpremlithos.com , which will showcase their collections and spread awareness about the rich heritage of Lithographic Art in India.
