Shakuntala, the daughter born to Maharishi Vishwamitra and apsara Menaka, grows up in sage Kanva's ashram. The story goes that the rishi found her amidst the singing shakunta birds and named her Shakuntala. Portrayed here is a young Shakuntala in sylvan surroundings with her sakhis (companions) Anusuya and Priyamvada.
