Details of Collection

"Shakuntala milan" (meaning "Dushyanta meets with Bharata's & his wife Shakuntala ") refers to the story of King Dushyanta and his son Bharata, as told in the Mahabharata and Abhijean Shakuntalam. This meeting, or reconciliation, is significant in the narrative as it marks the reunion of a father with his son whom he had previously forgotten. This Epic Abigyanam Shakuntalam was written by Kalidas in 5 Century AD.

Elaboration:

  • Dushyanta and Shakuntala:

Dushyanta, the king of Hastinapura, falls in love with Shakuntala, the foster daughter of sage Kanva, and they have a son named Bharata.

  • Forgotten Love:

Due to a curse, Dushyanta forgets Shakuntala and their son.

  • The Ring:

Shakuntala, carrying the ring Dushyanta had given her as a sign of his love, travels to Hastinapura and encounters Dushyanta, who initially does not recognize her.

  • Reunion:

When Shakuntala sees the ring, Dushyanta remembers her and his love for her, and they are reunited.

  • Bharata:

The story also involves Bharata, who is raised by sage Kanva. Dushyanta eventually acknowledges him as his son.

  • Significance:

The Dushyanta-Shakuntala-Bharata story is a classic example of a lost love, a curse, and a miraculous reunion, with a central theme of recognition and family reconciliation.
